Welcome back Beckham

Posted by Martin in Brazil, David Beckham, England, Steve McClaren | 2 June 2007

It's been sometime since I've watched Beckham play, it must have been the world cup and at that time he didn't impress. However, I still felt that he shouldn't have been dropped from the team completely.

Whilst the game against Brazil was not one of England’s finest, it did demonstrated the difference Beckham can make when playing a world class team.

We are all familiar with his dead ball ability, which yet again he was able display, but his passing and long balls skills were also on form. He had the hunger for the game that he’d appeared to have lost. Maybe the break has helped rekindle his passion.

I was also impressed that McClaren saw fit to bring David back into the England squad, either out of desperation or genuine belief that he’d made a mistake previously. I’d like to think the latter.

The crowd certainly appreciated Beckhams return and when you’ve got the fans behind you, which has been missing in recent games, it can make such a huge difference to the team morale and performance.

Well done David and Steve and I’m looking forward to watching England win in Estonia!
