Liverpool wins in the web stakes

Netratings have published a ranking of the most popular football club websites in Europe by measuring their domestic audiences.

The winner in England was Liverpool with 393,000 UK visitors, followed by Manchester United with 385,000 and Arsenal with 290,000.

Chelsea's pitch success appears ahead of their fan base growth as their website only has 215,000 visitors.

What's most interesting is how quickly non-Premiership clubs appear in the UK's biggest website list - Wolves at 7th spot, then Leeds United, Sunderland, Charlton and Nottingham Forest. QPR are in 13th and Bristol Rovers 14th spot.

Higher league clubs that don't figure in the top 20 are Bolton, Aston Villa and Middlesborough.

So league success doesn't necessarily mean larger audiences on the football club website.
