What to do about the England team?

So McClaren has gone but to be honest that won't solve England's problems at international level.
Sure, he wasn't the right manager but we also have a problem with the FA - the way they select managers seems more about their media presentability than whether they can win matches - and especially the players in the England squad.
We can all criticise McClaren's team selection, formation and tactics (and boy, do we criticise) but it's the players on the pitch who need to get the job done.
What can you do about a bunch of highly-paid, egotistical lads who will decide whether they play in the position you put them and may or may not put the effort in for the full 90 minutes?
Well, McClaren tried leaving David Beckham out but that meant we lost the only player who put his heart into each and every game.
It does need a manager who - as my postman who has plenty to say on the subject of millinaire footballers put it - has a bigger ego than the players or has their complete respect. Whatever you think of Mourinho he fullfils those criteria, though sadly almost no English managers do.
We need to make use of the time we have before the serious busness of the World Cup. Ditch the members of the senior team who haven't played up to expectations, promote some of the younger, eager players and get them used to the higher level as a squad. Chose a system that suits them and stick to it.
It may lead to a faltering start but it will build a better foundation for the future.
The current team had it's chance and blew it. It's time to leave them behind with the shame of knowing they were the most under-achieving England team for a generation.
