Rethinking World Cup prediction after England Vs Egypt
Posted by DavidM in England, World Cup | 3 March 2010
Earlier tonight my wife was updating our social diary and I gave her the dates of England's group matches for the World Cup to make sure I wasn't stuck at a dinner party during a match. I told her confidently that England would top their group so would also play on the 26th June and so on to the final (just in case).
However, it's now 75 minutes into the England-Egypt match and my confidence in that prediction has been slowly ebbing away.
As I type this England have gone 2-1 up but it doesn't matter as much as the display. Not awful by any means but not confidence inspiring. I know it's only a warm-up match and Egypt are no mugs - having won a record seventh African Nations Cup - but I was still hoping for a stronger and more dominant display.
Oh well, at least it keeps my expectations low for the summer.

This was a good game. England played well. But the need to play better for the world cup.
