England 4th in FIFA world rankings

FIFA's latest rankings of national teams has come out and England have moved up to 4th spot.

This follows triumphant wins over the goliaths of world football - Macedonia, Angola and Greece - and puts us ahead of world cup winners Italy.

This is our joint-highest ever position, last achieved in 1997 when Glenn Hoddle was manager. So who knows, if we can arrange some quick games against Liechtsenstein, Faroe Islands and Sealand (official size 0.000557 square kilometres!) we could top the table.

At least the rest of the rankings look sensible, unlike prior to the World Cup when the US were ranked 5th while Germany were 22nd.

It's nice to be up there but I agree with Steve McClaren - until we win things we can't claim to be among the best.
