McClaren - Should he stay or should he go?

"Barring an absolute disaster Wednesday should bring that much needed win against Andorra", was one of the comments I came across at the weekend.
So expectations are high for the match on Wednesday, unless we fail to score more than 5 goals or concede one, then for McClaren the match will have zero impact on his position either way. But that's not a dead cert by any means given our current performance!
The next Euro 2008 game against Estonia in theory should also be a walk in the park, so again for McClaren the match has no real bearing on his future.
But I guess the question is whether he will be with us for our next big match in September. Time enough I would have thought to find a replacement.
Apart from the FA, who have a vested interest in keeping McClaren, I've not come across anyone that has an real sympathy or support for him. Most fans are calling for his resignation or for the FA to sack him.
The only real sympathy I have for him is that perhaps he was given a job that he was never really capable of doing. But if you were offered a large pot of cash, wouldn't you take it?
Apparently it will only cost the FA £2.5M to pay McClaren off, whereas the cost to English football should we not get through is estimated at close to £100M.
So what it comes down to I think is whether the bean counters win over the football professionals.
In this instance Id say let the bean counters have it, I just cant see McClaren doing it for England.
Comments
He should go,all he ever did was have a decent run with Boro and he's good;imagine if Allydarce was coach, then he'll probably recall Sheringham & Tony Adams as first team players...
We need a very accomplished winnimg coach/manager,after all this is England we're talking about, remember Venables and whoever was in and out we're losing risking qualification Eriksson came in the rest was history...
Get Lippi or any high flier currently without a job...Guus Hiddink or some decent ones from Spain, hell Capello will be available soon...Maybe even Mourinho...or Sir Bobby Robson would be ideal if it has to be English...
