Aston Villa double gongs confirm progress

Aston Villa did the double in November, winning the Manager and Player of the Month awards.
Martin O'Neill has won before as Villa manager - in April of this year - but Agbonlahor is the first Villa player to win since February 2000 when Paul Merson scooped the award.
And to win both awards in one month is quite a feat and shows how Aston Villa are progressing under O'Neill.
They may only be 8th in the league, but that's three points off fourth spot. They may also have been beaten by Portsmouth and Arsenal in their last two games, but before that they won four games on the trot. Admittedly against mid-table opposition but three were away from home.
The downside for Villa fans is that this is the second time that O'Neill has won the Manager of the Month and the team has lost their next game.
The publicity will also fuel the rumours that Agbonlahor will leave the club in January. Arsenal have previously been linked to him and rumours abound that Manchester United are keen.
However, I think Agbonlahor can see himself flourishing under O'Neill and with the progress Aston Villa have been making they are a club to stick with. They have some way to go to challenge for the top places but as these awards show, they're moving in the right direction.
