Bundesliga - Week 28

Posted by Pete in Bundesliga | 2 April 2006

One big surprise this weekend. Namely, Cologne's 2:2 draw with Bayern. Away too. All four goals came in the first half, but while it might be a surprising result it doens't really change things. The 1.FC are still stuck at the bottom, while Munich are still seven points clear of Hamburg who won a heated encounter thanks to two second half goals at Schalke's Veltins-Arena. Elsewhere, while matters aren't yet quite decided for the last remaining UEFA Cup spot, Hertha took a big step forward towards it (until they next lose that is), by beating Stuttgart who now fall behind the two Borussias.

Going back to the Bayern game though. Kahn had be be substituted at half-time and left the stadium but not before beating himself (figuratively) over the two goals he conceded. He blamed his general match fitness and the desire to beat Jens to the number one shirt at the World Cup. Uli Honess (on Bayern's board) naturally went one step further and blamed Klinsmann for creating this competition between the two keepers. Expect this one to run and run. But it's interesting to note that a Kicker poll sees 70% of Germans believe that Juergen will let Lehmann start.

I think Klinsmann will surprise the whole of Germany again. And we all know that only one of both goalies will go to the World Cup. The other one will leave the team.
