Season Review - Sydney FC
Posted by Jasper Reed in A-League, Sydney FC | 31 March 2006

Nickname: Dont have one
Manager: Pierre Littbarski (former German World Cup winger)
Home Strip: Pale Blue/Navy
Final League Position: 2nd
Position After Finals: 1st
How did they do? Expected to walk the league, it didnt quite gone to plan. They started well enough, winning the pre season tournament that gave them entry into the World Club Championship in December, but since that jaunt they failed to win the next 6 games. There was a real chance of missing out on a top 2 finish but a late season rally saw them claim the title in a blaze of publicity
Star Player: Dwight Yorke: poster boy of the league, it was widely expected that Dwight was in search of nightclubs new rather than greener pastures when he swapped Birminghams bench for Botany Bay, but he has kept a low profile off the pitch and on it, playing a withdrawn midfield role for most of this campaign. He has performed solidly enough, but has looked jaded since the trip to Japan, testament to his Trinidadian commitments.
You might also have heard of: David Zdrillic (Walsall, Aberdeen), Steve Corica (Wolves, Leicester) Terry McFlynn (QPR), David Carney (Everton, Oldham), Ian Crook (Norwich Tottenham) is the teams assistant manager
What do they need: They need nothing, but have acquired 2 young stars from other A League clubs to keep the squad competitive. If they can keep Littbarski, Yorke and Carney they will be unbackable for next year.
Little known fact:Nothing about Sydney is secret anymore.......
