Season Review - Newcastle United
Posted by Jasper Reed in A-League, Newcastle United | 20 March 2006

Nickname: Jets
Manager: Richard Money (England, former Fulham, Liverpool and Luton defender)
Home Strip: Old Gold/Black
Final League Position: 4th
Position after Finals: 4th
How did they do? Unlike some of the teams below them, they quietly went along without too much fuss like a the team of experienced pros that they are. Had a tendency to get thumped a bit too often (they were the only team, other thsan the Knights, to record a negative goal difference) but a very promising first year. Making the finals was always going to be the fulcrum of their ambition, which they achieved, and should be stronger for it next season.
Star Player: Liam Reddy (goalkeeper); The unheralded Reddy had a stellar finals series, and established himself as one of the leagues top 3 keepers
You might also have heard of: Andy Pettersen (appeared at many, many clubs between 1988 and 2005, including Charlton), Ned Zelic (QPR, former Australian captain)
What do they need: Thier first 11 is probably as good as most, but they need a little more depth. 5 squad members have already been cut, so it seems that the pruning process has begun
Little known fact: Former Australian team boss and professional cockney Terry Venables was rumoured to be among the candidates for the Head Coach gig at Newcastle....
