Schwarzer's bare cheek leads to sombre reflection

On this Anzac Day morning, Australia is alarmed by it's sudden, and growing, injury list.

Anzac Day (25th April) is a public holiday to remember those who lost their lives in the Gallipoli landings in 1915, and other war dead. It is a sacred national occasion, the closest the country gets to a religious experience. This is proven by the fact that the shops dont open until 11am.......

Anyway, this morning the papers and news bulletins follow up pictures of fallen soldiers with fallen keepers. Various articles then go on to list, with grave concern that:

Cahill has a swollen knee

Viduka missed the cup semi, and

Kewell was taken off late in Liverpool's semi

Arguably, Australia's 4 most important players struck down only 45 days away from Germany 06. Sombre indeed....

Of all of these, it is Schwarzer who is causing most concern. He has certainly been in sparkling form for the Boro, but you can understand the concern when the back up keepers consist of Zeljko Kalac (once of Leicester, and described in their programme as 'calamitous') and Wigan's John Filan.....
