Newcastle lose Money

Newcastle Jets have parted company with head coach Richard Money by mutual consent. The former Liverpool, Luton and Fulham defender took the Jets to 4th place in the innaugual A League season, but has paid the price for what chairman Con Constantine referred to as 'dour' football.

His replacement in is Nick Theodorakopoulos, who won the old NSL title with Woollongong in 2000 and took Parramatta to the last NSL final in 2004. He was surprisingly overlooked by A League clubs, but has since become a media favourite, and, along with ex Australia coach Frank Farina, a spectre hanging over under performing coaches. As a New South Welshman, 'Theo' is a good fit for the ambitious Jets.

Money becomes the second A League casualty, following compatriot Steve McMahon's dumping at Perth, as Australia's apparent 'foriegn is best' philosophy wanes.
