Central Coast Mariners 1 Newcastle United 1

Central Coast moved through to the Preminary final of the A League last night after a 1-1 draw saw them win 2-1 on aggregate. After a strong opening by the Mariners during which Jets keeper Liam Reddy was again in the thick of the action, it was Newcastle who went ahead on 29 minutes, a speculative effort by Matthew Thompson catching Danny Vukovic off guard. The game looked like heading into extra time, but on 79 minutes Dean Heffernan headed home a terrific right wing cross, and ended Newcastle's season.
A crowd of 17,000, almost 5,000 up on previous highest, witnessed the Mariner's final home game. The Mariners will now play the loser of tomorrow's major semi final 2nd leg in either Sydney or Adelaide.
