Adelaide Crash Out

Minor League champions Adelaide United will not feature in the Grand Final after being beaten 1-0 at home by the Central Coast Mariners this afternoon.

The only goal of the game came in the 7th minute, when Tom Pondeljak stabbed home an Andre Gumprecht cross following a terrible mistake by Adam van Dommelle. The Red’s left back missed his kick in the 6 yard box, leaving Pondeljak the simplest of tasks.

Adelaide had much of the possession but created few chances against a team beaten only once on their travels. They again lacked the imagination that had seen them run away in the league and, despite Fernando Rech crashing a free kick against the bar on 76 minutes, can have no real complaints about the result.

So next week’s final will be an all New South Wales affair, and a repeat of the pre season final which was won by Sydney FC.
