McClaren for England. Plod on.

So finally it's announced. Steve McClaren will be the new England manager.

I've seen many comments about this giving us continuity, that he's a familiar face and is simply stepping up from one job below.

But is it just me or is it all really unexciting?

When Sven came in it was fresh and different - although that feels a long way off now.

My heartbeat picked up when I heard we approachd Scolari. he may not be English or everyone's cup of tea but what a pedigree!

However, he didn't like the idea of the tabloids ripping his private life apart so we've gone for the manager of the 13th best team in the country. Admittedly they're in the UEFA cup final but ho hum. Not the same as winning the World Cup with Brazil is it?

I was looking for a shake-up, fresh ideas and moving the team forward. McClaren feels more like a caretaker manager until we find someone sensational who acually wants to do the job.

Good news for Southgate though, he could get a few more caps.

If the rumour is true that Martin O'Neill didn't get the job as he refuse the FA's request that Becks must play then more fool them.

He would have took you to the next level.

McLearn? Same old same old.

I'm surprised the talk about MON died down. I'd have thought he'd be in the chase to the end.

I don't think Stevie Mac will be ruthless enough with the existing squad because he knows them too well, so players will stay in when out of form just because of history.
