Ecuador fire warning shot for England

Only 2 games played at this year's World Cup and we've already had our first upset. Poland, generally expected to be runners-up in Group A (and hopefully therefore England's opponents in the next round) were beaten by Ecuador.

This puts Ecuador in an excellent position to take second spot in the Group, assuming Germany beats both sides and Ecuador can chalk up a win over Costa Rica. England fans could be in the pub early next Thursday (15th) to see what could be the deciding match between Ecuador and Cost Rica at 2pm.

The warning for England is that Ecuador and Paraguay qualified in joint third place, so even though no-one has suggested Paraguay are whipping boys, today's result confirms that we cannot complacent.

To be fair this evening's match was a clash between two poor teams and Ecuador were less awful than Poland. Even so, England need to play Paraguay expecting a tough game and to work hard to get the result.
