Argentina v Holland - the first big clash

So last night saw the first clash between two real contenders. Although ITV hyped it up as being a must-watch game, it wasn't overly exciting and certainly not high-scoring. That was no surprise given these are two very good sides who, although they have strong attacking players, also have very robust defences.
Although the Ivory Coast and Ukraine were no walk-over, this was the first serious test for both teams and it was interesting to see how they played.
Both teams still looked good, the passing was controlled and the skill on display was still apparent. But the delightful Argentina of the first two games was replaced with more industry and they didn't shine.
Both teams worked hard to get the ball then held onto it well. Argentina continued to build offensive play through passing and moving swiftly up the pitch, while Holland opted for more long-balls into the front players.
I've said that I think Argentina are the team to watch this tournament. Does that still hold after last night? They certainly didn't look as invincible but they had made some player changes and they didn't need to win the game. I still think this Argentina side is very, very good and I would much rather England met Holland in the quarter-finals.
