Wigan's International Pedigree

Posted by liam_wafc in Wigan | 4 August 2006

Internationals. One thing Wigan have always lacked. We've had our fair share of Northern Internationals, I remember feeling proud when seeing Roy Carroll playing for his country whilst at Wigan, as to have any international was a big deal for us at the time.

Now however, we have numerous internationals. Along with our Scottish internationals we have an Austrian international in Paul Scharner, a French in Chimbonda, a Dutch international in Denny Landzaat and Ecuadors young star Luis Valencia, who was shortlisted for the World Cup best XI and youg palyer of the tournament.

And along with former England front-man Emile Heskey we have Chris Kirkland, a goalkeeper who many believe to be Englands best goalie: When fit.

Wigan now have an international Pedigree, the ability to bring in proven internationals. Denny Landzaat is the icing on the cake. Not only has he been capped for Holland, but he is a regular player for them. And for me he is the key player for Wigan this coming season.

Many thought losing Jimmy Bullard would be the final nail in our coffin, and that we we're destined to be relegated. However, Jewell has worked wonders again and has brought in not only an international, but a player i can confidently say is better than Bullard in almost every way. And yes i have seen him play.

If Jewell continues to bring in players of this quality, any thought of relegation can be gsent to the back of our minds straight away.

Roll on 19th August!
