Wigan's Big Advantage

One of the reasons, in my opinion that we lost our way as the season ran its course last season, apart from lack of goals, was the fact that when it came down to a scrap, we weren't big or strong enough and in the end lost games.

That however i am glad to say should not be the case this coming season, after watching the side against Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday. Although i knew who we had signed, what i didn't realise until i saw them playing was just how big the majority of our new players are, and therefore more imposing too.

Fitz Hall, Emmerson Boyce and Emile Heskey are over 6 foot tall, and are big in stature, whilst Luis Valencia was alot more imposing than i first believed. Players such as Kavanagh and Baines are now the smallest players on the field whereas last season they we're some of the biggest.

This is just more proof of Jewell working the transfer market well. Jewell recognised that the size of the squad, in terms of height and build, needed improving, something that i only realised on saturday. Compared to last seasons squad we look much more imposing for sure.

Hopefully Jewell can bring in another forward and cover for the left hand side of the team, if he can do that we will have a very good squad.

Five days to go!
