Three In, Three Out for Latics

It was a bust deadline day for Wigan Athletic, as three new players joined Paul Jewells ranks, whilst three players moved onto pastures new.
The first port of business regarded Irish duo Graham Kavanagh and Kevin Kilbane. It was revealed by the Irish FA that both had been given permission to leave the Ireland training camp to undergo medicals. Kav was to join fellow compatriot Roy Keanes Sunderland Revolution, whilst Evertons Kevin Kilbane was to sign for Wigan, in a deal now beleived to be worth over £2million.
During the wait for more news on Kevin Kilbane, it was announced that Tottenham were finally successful with a bid for misfit Pascal Chimbonda, who eventually signed Spurs with minutes of the transfer window to go. He literally squeezed through the door.
Rumours then started to circulate about David Connolly also joining 'major Kav' at the Stadium of Light. Surely if Jewell was willing to let go one of our three strikers, he had at least one, possibly two strikers lined up?
Turns out he did.
The Latics had angered many Norwich fans by stealing a march on their bid to sign a promising league one striker at the eleventh hour. Jewell paid out £2million for Bristol Citys 18-year-old forward David Cotterill. Collective calls of 'who' could be heard from the mouths of most Latics fans, except for the ones (including me) who watched him tear Northampton apart on Tuesday night live football. £2million? Could turn out to be a bargain.
Then the news came about David Connolly signing for the Mackems. We recouped £1.9million back of the £3million we paid for him last transfer deadline. Was this the end of our spending?
Well technically yes, as the final roll of the dice from Paul Jewell saw Portsmouth striker Todorov sign on loan with a view to a permanent deal. the 28-year-old Bulgarian international joins with a record of a goal every other game, and was Jewell ELEVENTH and final signing of a very hectic summer.
Good work Jewell and his backroom staff on what has been Wigans most pro-active summer in our history.
