Arsenal: Smash and Grab at the JJB

Posted by liam_wafc in Arsenal, Wigan | 14 December 2006

Smash and Grab. Hit and Run. Whichever way you say it, i haven't felt this dedjected since Hernan Crespo scored that winner in the 93rd on our Premiership debut. What must we do to beat one of the 'big four'?

When Adebayor lashed onto the long ball and slid the ball past the excellent Chris Kirkland, our immediate reaction was to blame the awful Rob Styles who was attempting to referee the game.

But when we look at it, we only had ourselves to blame. Not only did our players switch off, expecting a free kick when Fabregas's well timed tackle took the ball of Camara, but we squandered numerous fantastic chances to take the lead ourselves.

Yes the referee was absolutely awful, at one point watching as an Arsenal player let the ball roll down his arm AND gave two corners when it was blatant they were not corners, but I can't help but feel like we kicked ourselves in the teeth.

It was a fantastic performance, with Denny Landzaat playing well as the attacking midfielder (for once). A lot of pride can be taken from Wednesday's performance...but our players must be wondering one thing.

What must they do to beat one of the big four?

The first half was poor, particularly for the gunners.

When you play a team like Arsenal and they're not playing well, you must take your chances.

Wigan didn't and paid the price!
