Heskey Wigan's biggest Signing

It's the summer of 2002. The World Cup is in full swing in Japan/South Korea and England have just beaten Denmark 3-0 in the Second round. Among the scorers, Emile Heskey.

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic are busy attempting to build a squad in an attempt to gain promotion to the old Division one, now the Championship. At this time, the thought of Heskey playing for little Wigan was the stuff of dreams.

Fast forward four years, Emile Heskey is no longer in the England squad and has just signed for his fourth Premiership club. The Club, Wigan Athletic.

Hopefully, that little history lesson explains just why Emile Heskey is such a huge signing for Wigan Athletic. It can be argued that whilst Wigans fortunes have been on the up since 2002, Emile Heskey has lost some of the ability that made him an England regular, but the fact is, Heskey playing for Wigan just shows how far we have come in such a short space of time.

Chris Kirkland, once dubbed Englands next great 'keeper, has since followed Heskey in signing for the ambitious Lancashire outfit, and it seems odds on that Holland International Denny Landzaat will become Jewells fifth signing in a busy summer.

Truly, the good times are here for Wigan, and the future looks very bright.
