Denny in need of Dutch Courage

Saturdays fantastic 2-2 draw with an in form Everton overshadowed the fact that four games in, Dutch international Denny Landzaat has yet to live up to the hefty reputation he came with.

In fairness to the former AZ Alkmaar captain, he hasnt been poor in all games, only against Everton where his biggest contribution was going off. Against Pompey, the Toon and Reading he had average games, but compared to what the Latics faithful expected of him he sadly has come up short.

When he first signed, he was hailed as potentially our biggest ever signing, a current Dutch international who transformed his team into UEFA Cup contenders. It's no word of a lie that much was expected from him.

Its still early days, it could be that he is taking his time to adapt to the fast paced Premiership. Just look at foreign imports who started their careers off in England slowly, but are now one of the top performers. Pederson at Rovers is a great example, he warmed the bench for 3 months before he began to show his full potential.

To any Latics fans, i say give Denny time, and sooner rather than later he will work up enough Dutch Courage and be one of our top performers.
