Squad status - Owen update
Posted by JamesB in Glenn Roeder, Michael Owen, Newcastle | 9 March 2006
Following tabloid reports that Owen had suffered a setback in his comeback from a foot injury, Glenn Roeder spoke today to tell anxious Newcastle (and probably England) fans that he is still on track, and there was no foundation for the rumours.
Roeder said "To suggest Michael Owen has had a setback is ridiculous.
"We accurately assess what stage players are at during their rehabilitation and Michael Owen is where we thought he would be at this stage of his recovery."
This leaves the squad situation as follows for the televised Man Utd game on Sunday.
Owen, Taylor, Dyer and Carr are all still out. Craig Moore played for the reserves on Monday, but is still lacking match fitness after being out all season.
Man Utd will be missing Alan Smith who suffered a leg break against Liverpool in the FA Cup, Paul Scholes who is suffering from bad vision, and Heinze who has missed most of the current campaign.
