Shepherd needs to give Roeder some help

Posted by JamesB in Newcastle | 28 January 2007

The transfer window has come, and is quickly going, and on the face of it our squad has not changed one bit.

If Mr. Shepherd wants to salvage the season he must stump up the cash. Whether it's a loan deal or a permanent deal we need a new defender or two before Thursday! Our squad is once again down to the bare bones and although they do an admirable job when called upon, I don't think we can get away with playing a completely make shift back line of kids and out of position midfielders.

With a bit of luck the injuries will clear up. The current status of the squad is absolutely unbelievable, I've never seen an injury crisis like this at any club in any sport. Roeder's handling of it is top notch and I love his attitude, but in reality if he doesn't have the players to work with he can't get very far.

In the mean time however a couple of new faces are essential. Shepherd has always backed managers he should never have appointed in the first place, so it would be ironic (although perhaps unsurprising) if he was not to back a manager who is doing a sterling job for the club. The next few days could shape our season - a little can go a long way Freddie.

James I think you're missing the point.
The players Roeder would like to bring to the club haven't been available during the January transfer window. This isn't the fault of Freddy Shepherd or a lack of support on his behalf. I'm sure he recognises our current predicament (I bloody well hope so anyway!)but he can only sign players who belong to clubs willing to release them. We may have to sit tight until the summer - frustrating but that's footy.

I think both of sheperd and roder still have poor ability and poor vision for newcastle.Because from the time that sheperd allow souness to be manager, we can know that how poor he is.And for roder I never see which match that he show his ability for being manager. He use only the performance of the squad. And especially for luque problem although he will has poor ability or not but he is great at spain why roder think he is poorer than our young squad. So roder and sheperd should resign from newcastle.

i think that roeder is done a great job at newcastle what he done last season was against all odds, everyone was on his back before he took charge and then look what he achieved, he astonishly got newcastle into europe! this season he has been unlucky with injuries, and the players he has motivated to start in the starting 11 have been terrific, they have beaten tottenham twice, liverpool and drawn with man utd! dont forget that roeder hasnt been able to put owen in his team once since he took charge! im sure that once owen has recovered that newcastle next season will be champions league contenders, mainly because of the high calibre players that reoder has brang to the club since sounass.
