Newcastle reach the end of the Roed
Posted by JamesB in Newcastle | 6 May 2007
Breaking news tonight is that Glenn Roeder has resigned as Newcastle United manager. Bizarre, following a public display of confidence on Friday saying that he would be in charge next season and was not considering any other prospects. How much of this was 'resignation' is up for debate, I just wonder how much pressure Shepherd heaped on him to leave.
He wouldn't have been the only one either. Plenty of discontent among the fans has meant our string of uncertainty and instability will continue, with yet another managerial appointment to come soon.
Personally I have sympathy with Roeder. You will see very few seasons in your lifetime that are beleaguered by injuries as this one has been, and for me there will always be question marks over how much backing from the board Roeder really had.
There are few prizes for guessing who the man being linked with our job with is. In fact Allardyce seems to have been linked with the Newcastle hot seat for the past few seasons, regardless of whether we already have a manager or not. Certainly it does look more likely now the big man is unemployed, but who knows what is going through that chairman's mind.
I'd like to thank Roeder for what he did, and what he tried to do for the club. Rotten luck should not make us forget that last season he saved us from Souness and took us on another European adventure. He will also leave behind some great signings that will make the new gaffer's job a whole lot easier. All the best Glenn, and watch this space for news and views on the new manager.

“Mr Freddy Shepherd or the Managers at fault”
Time and again chairman Freddy Shepherd, pulls the plug on a manager or makes if to hard “not to resign”, we can count them back to KK.
Freddy Shepherd, was there for KK reign, then he lined his own pockets “all for the good of the club” now how many times have we heard that one Mr Shepherd.
Sir Bobby plus others some of which we can least proclaim, have all done their part, we have gone from the top-buying club to the top sacking managers club.
We can also count done the demise of one of the “richest clubs” from top of the table (KK), to being in top flight Europe, to lesser European action, to “wow!” winning the Inter Toto cup this year.
Now we are so far back 13th place 42 points and clubs not afraid of the mighty Toon at home any more.
Where does this all gather up to in conclusion, only one man has been there “over seeing” the demise of this one time mighty club Mr Freddy Shepherd.
I would like to see what excuse he and his endless lackeys have to say not to just 52,000 but to the hundreds of thousands of loyal fans that line his pockets each time we buy a NUFA shirt or goods.
“Excuse me, Mr Shepherd” but wasn’t it yourself many years ago court saying we were stupid idiots for our loyalty and buying the NUFC shirt?
You thought we all forgot that because you were a good chap and loved the Toon so much you’d do anything for the loyal fans.
“Rubbish” you wanted us to be there and so boost your bulging pockets, with all the fans hard, earned money we pay in to “OUR CLUB” not yours?
“Sorry mate!” you’ve got it wrong once to often, not the managers faults which “YOU PICK” for monetary and control reasons only “look at Glenn Roeder” you pick not us?
It’s now the time of you or us, you can go and NUFC will be fine, if “us” go NUFC will cease to be as it is “US” that make NUFC what it is.
You have a choice 1 pull your finger out properly this time or 2 “walk, resign or what ever you want to call it” JUST GO!
Lets see if you put it to a vote of “all” the Toon fans as to whether it’s managers or Mr Freddy Shepherd, should go.
You would never do that because you would fear the response of even the sensible ranks of NUFC supporters, TRUE?
So I as do other believe that you are whole heartedly responsible for the mess the club finds itself in and you “should” carry the “can” this time.
