Newcastle players ratings - Charlton (h)

Given - fairly quiet game, made some routine stops. Also made one good save when Darren Bent was through towards the end. 7

Elliot - drawn inside a fair bit, solid enough but was playing against Marcus Bent who isn't usually on the right and who was also very poor. 6

Boumsong - winning more and more in the air at the moment, which is good. Had one moment where he had time but booted the ball in to the air, but also tidied up really well when Charlton had a good opportunity. 7

Bramble - Solid game, surprisingly probed forward a couple of times. 7

Ramage - Another solid performer, still doesn't offer much when he goes forward (which he isn't to blame for, bearing in mind he is a centre back.) 6.5

N'Zogbia - much quieter than he has been recently, didn't have much of a chance to run at his man or put in a cross. 6

Bowyer - misplaced passes and not particularly effective, couple of strong challenges especially in the first half. 5.5

Parker - the best of an average team performance really. Always looking to play a forward pass, and as you well know doesn't hold back in the tackle. 7.5

Solano - tried to play the ball with the outside of his foot over the defence a few times with little effect, as there was no real pace up front or anyone playing on the shoulder of the defence. Some nice play, and was taken out at one point when he had created some space for himself. 6.5

Emre - Looked like the only one who might have created something, couple of decent corners as well. 7

Shola - did a decent job of holding up the ball on his own up front and chasing some lost causes. Had a golden chance with a header from a corner, and an offside goal which I haven't seen on the replay yet, but he did look offside. 6

Subs

Luque - caught in possession, and was sloppy on the ball. 5

A fairly boring game was reflected by the result. Newcastle hit the bar twice from intended crosses, and Ameobi had a great chance. We had the lions share of the possession, but Charlton were at the races and Bent looked dangerous when trying to get in behind the defence.

Everton will be a tough game unless we get a striker back on the pitch, because it was obvious we were without three of our top forward players.
