Is Shepherd seriously considering Roeder for the Newcastle job?

A fortnight or so ago I was under the impression that we would almost definately have the new manager appointed before the end of the season. 3 games to go and no new manager, but instead permission from the FA for Roeder to manage us until the end of the season. Granted, things happen in time, but the sudden change of heart to allow Roeder to be installed until the end of the season seems odd to me.

Probably unlikely, but my reaction was that perhaps Shepherd is giving Roeder until the end of the season to prove himself, and he could actually be well in the running for the job full time if he sees us in to Europe, perhaps in a potential partnership with someone who has more experience.

Although he lacks much of a track record, noone can argue that Roeder has done a great job since he took over. Shepherd could not be blamed for being lured in to seriously considering him, especially if there are stumbling blocks gettings in the way of Shepherd's first or second or whatever choice of manager.

It may sound like a bit of a conspiracy theory, but its the first thing that occured to me as soon as I heard Roeder had been granted permission to manager us until the end of the season. However that doesn't mean he can become our permanent manager as it stands anyway; he still lacks the necessary qualifications, which some fans will find reassuring no doubt. It would be quite a shock for the Hitzfeld campaigners to find out a rookie Englishman had been appointed.

Of course the chances are I'm jumping the gun on this one and its just because there has been a technicality with the appointment. Its very possible with the current status of the England job as well. But a 4-1 win over our local rivals will have done Roeder's reputation no harm at all, and I wonder what lines Mr. Shepherd is thinking along.

i think roader will be a good appointment but he would need someone like bobby robson to help him. my first choice would be hitzfelt at first i thought o'neil but it seems as though he would perfer england and the toon dont need to be second best to anyone.

p.s. europe here we come.

We need someone who can 'build' a club and i personally don't think that's Glen Roeder and i can't see him having enough pull in the transfer market to attract the calibre of player we will need.
With luck we'll recruit an excellent manager and Roeder will provide the new man with some superstars.

Personally i think you are reading too much into the LMA's extension being given to Roeder. What else could they do if they were preventing the Toon from naming their manager through their own prevarication?
Fred said that the new manager will be in place by the end of the season and I've no doubt he will. But I do have my doubts that it will be Roeder.
Right Said Fred - the next manager will be world class and have the full suport of the fans.
Roeder has managed 3 clubs and been sacked by them all. This is too important to Freds position as Chairman to hand it to Roeder on his own.
That doesn't mean, however that he may not remain involved when the new manager arrives.

No one can deny what a brilliant job Roeder has done. But let's not forget the part that Big Al has played in this revival. And he won't be there next year.
