Back to winning ways

An impressive performance against Spurs today saw us pick up 3 points in a 3-1 win against Tottenham. It took 2 minutes to get on the scoresheet, and it was Lee Bowyer who tapped in after some good buildup play. A siege on the Tottenham goal followed, before the away side picked up a good goal from Robbie Keane totally against the run of play.

Our mentality didn't change however, and freeflow attacking football got us back in front with Shola Ameobi picking up his 6th of the season. Goalscorer Bowyer was brought down in the box minutes later by the struggling Edgar Davids, and Alan Shearer dispatched a power penalty to mark his 300th Premier League appearance.

All this before half time.

The second half though produced less goalscoring chances, but Michael Dawson was sent off about half way through for 2 bookable offences.

Roeder today had reshuffled the defence, with Boumsong being left on the bench after having a poor game against Charlton. Carr faced his old club at right back, with Elliot on the other flank and Craig Moore continuing his comeback with Ramage at central defence. The changes proved to be effective, although Tottenham should certainly have got more than the one goal. Ex Newcastle goldfish Jermaine Jenas missed an absoloute sitter after going round Shay Given. With an empty net at his disposal he lashed the ball in to the side netting to the delight of the Gallowgate end.

Overall it was a good United performance, and starting with a trip to Smogside next Saturday, our run in does not pose any impossible tasks at all, although the probable champions visit St James' on the last day of the season, so it could be an important game in terms of our final league position.

For those who were still not convinced, we also broke the magic 40 point barrier today!
