Pearce in trouble at Man City

After an initial honeymoon period at Manchester City, Stuart Pearce is failing to deliver. He is passionate, enthusiastic and honest about his team, but these ingredients must be matched by better tactical acumen. Before anyone gets too hysterical, I am not advocating that he be sacked but claiming that he needs to look at his own development as a Manager.

Kicking every ball and screaming instructions from the sidelines will soon lose their effect if they have not already, if results do not improve. You only have to look at Richards' behaviour when substituted to realise respect is slowly eroding for their manager. At Premiership level he must ensure his team are technically and tactically equiped to win matches. For a prolonged period now they have been inadequate in both departments. I was sceptical about his knowledge having listened to his post match analysis during the World Cup, where his comments had no tactical insight.

When he applied for the job he based his credentials around what he thought the fans would want to hear. He claimed he would motivate players, ensure they would be committed and he would not tolerate poor performances. These are all commendable philosophies but they will not be enough to win football matches alone.

Is Steve Wigley, his Coach giving him the right advice and help or is his tactical input no greater than Pearce's? As with most English born Managers and Coaches they do not possess the intelligence and game understanding that most foreign coaches do. This is due to the poor coach education process currently available in England.

As with most clubs now, their sports science, medical and dietary departments will have improved beyond recognition but the coaching will still be lagging behind. Pearce had better address City's problems before they plunge deeper into trouble.

Pearce was a novice when appointed to the job City is a £60M business and the key job is the Football Manager Would Wardle when CEO at JD Sports have appointed a novice to the key position there? I think not so why do so at City? because the man is star struck Pearce is slow building up the worst record of results in the club's history he already has the worst home record run He should have been sacked at the end of last season I question how long this run can go on without action Wigley is the man who relegated Southampton so he lots of knowledge in that field The problem now is who can take over the only available man with the right credentials is Curbishley but would he want the job? The board have two more games before the fans get on their back if we loose at Blackburn on Saturday and the team do not perform at Chesterfield then the fans will want blood at the WHU home game
