Proud to be a Red!

Well what can you say after a game like that. Liverpool played well, controlled the game largely for the first half and –were it not for an un-lucky free kick at the end of the first half- looked the favourites to lift the cup for the second time in 3 years.

After that we needed a goal, looked more stretched at the back and that was that.

Surprisingly I don’t feel too deflated. I watched a team who had -in successive games- played three of the best sides in Europe and clearly had the beating of all three.

On the night Milan took their chances and we didn’t; that’s how it goes in football sometimes.

I have to admit I was unhappy with the ref signalling a minimum of three minutes -within which there was a substitution adding at least another 30 seconds- and only playing two minutes forty. It was a shame because the game didn’t deserve to have an excuse attached to it.

Had the clock been allowed to run down and had we still been 2-1 down, then I could have left this game disappointed but content that on the day we just didn’t take our chances. Indeed that is largely how I feel but now I’m left feeling someone disgruntled. I’m sure we would have had another chance in the missing 45 seconds the way the game was going, whether would have gone in is another story but now well never know. Still all credit to Milan they scored 2 in 90 minutes which we failed to do.

The main thing I took from the game however was a sense of pride in all of the players. They played their hearts out and at the post match interviews there were no excuses-no signs of bad sportsmanship and fair credit being given from every side to the Milan team. All this while still being on the pitch before anyone could tell them what to say or to control their opinions. Everything that was said was genuine and says a lot about the mentality within this team Rafa is building.

That’s what being a footballer should be all about and it set the perfect example to all who saw it. If we’re really honest do we think that many other Premiership sides would have been as gracious?

Well done lads you did us proud. I’m sure we’ll get there again in the not too distant future, and next time we’ll win it!

We'll take it on the chin and bounce back a better team. Milan did it, so can we.

I don't really no what to say. Milan won but Liverpool was fantastic in the match and after the match. Their reaction was superp in terms of interview and how they congratulated Milan players. I call that maturity, after all, what we did to Milan last two years was far greater than this. Liverpool, i wish you all the best next season. YNWA.

Liverpool were essentially 'liverpool'ed'.

There was much talk from the Milan camp - at least as reported by the press - of 'revenge', and the Italian press largely reported it in that way in the aftermath. But there was certainly no humiliation, as many, including Sir Alex, thought inevitable. The best comment I heard from one Milan supported was "See you next year in the final!
