Just a quick update on whats been going around on the old t’interweb recently.

A number of clubs have been linked with Fernando Torres this week, with Liverpool reputedly at the forefront of these.
I have to admit I’m not to sure about the likelihood of this one, but with Rafa doing a sterling job of saving the pennies on other purchases this summer I wouldn’t be surprised to see him splash out on one high profile striker and if that’s the case Torres wouldn’t be a bad choice!

Rumours abound that we have signed another pre-contract with an Argentinean midfielder for a deal working out at around £2.5 million. This along with reported deals for Fabio Aurelio, Mark Gonzales and Gabriel Paletta would take us to an impressive 4 new signings already this summer at a cost of around £8 million (although 5 of that was spent at Christmas for Gonzales).
He would be from a club that is in the Argentinean league, and I have to admit my knowledge of such things is somewhat lacking, but I have heard that various European clubs have been chasing him for a while and he does show some real promise! I’ll update this Blog when I dig out his name again later.

A move for Roma Defender Mexes looks to have been ruled out this week after he signed a new deal with the club, but to be honest that one always looked a long shot.

And finally a rumour has been circulated that Jan Krompkamp could potentially leave this summer if the price is right (around £3 million). This would be a real shame in my opinion as - from what we have seen since his January signing - he is a very promising player.
I can’t see any real sense in this one as without him we don’t have any obvious cover at right back (unless Antonio Barragan is now considered to have had enough experience in the reserves). In this rumours favour however, is the fact that we have seen Benitez part with good players for the sake of the club before (as in the case of Milan Baros at the start of this year).

Rafa is the master of smoke screens and mirrors. Nobody truely knows who we'll bring in but i have a feeling every red will be happy.
Id say Kuyt is nailed on, we are already talking with him and he is the second choice after Torres who may well favour Arsenal.
Bonera or Daniel Alves will join, perhaps both. Alves for RM and bonera for RB/CB.
Rafa wants serious competition for Krompkamp who will return to Holland this summer.
If i had to bet my house on who we'd buy, my landlord probably wouldnt be too happy but id say Kuyt, bonera and Alves will be the big name sigings for a total of almost 30m.
Rafa will almost definately purchase 2 forwards to replace cisse and mori, but i imagine the second one will be a cheaper, younger prospect.
Its wishful thinking to consider buying both Kuyt and Torres but the board HAVE sanctioned moves for both.

have we signed this sergio aguero(17 year old argentinian, next maradona, LIFE LONG LFC FAN) as i have read on a number of sites that benitez won't pay more than 6m for him but real madrid offered 11m and it got rejected?

Re Jan Kronkamp

I fully agree with you, I think however he might be a part exchange deal for Huntelaar????????

The Argentine midfielder we have apparantly agreed a 2.5m pound deal with is called Leandro Daniel Somomza. He plays for Velez in the argentine league. He is a defensive midfielder standing at 6ft 2in tall.

I pray we get Torres. He is one of the most talented fowards in the world. He has almost everything. Pace, Skill, Technique, good in the air, in both feet etc.
If we sign him, it will be one of the best transfers in LFC history

From what I’ve read it does look like we are likely to make a move for either Bonera or Daniel Alves in the summer.

I would also be very happy at the end of the day with either Kuyt or Torres up front (as you say buying both seems somewhat unlikely due to budget requirements), but I can't say I can confidently pick which is more likely.
As I said above, Torres reputedly favours a move to us, whereas Newcastle are supposed to be ready to offer more than we will for Kuyt but both of these pieces of information could well just be the usual mis-direction that abounds at this time of year.

Thanks Kofi, yes that’s the lad I was talking about. It could spell the end for Hamann really, as with Gerrard, Alonzo, Sissoko and Somomza we would have the two players for each position that Rafa favours.
It’s a shame but I would like to see Didi get a few more chances with another club to end his career as he’s been such a good servant for us over the years.

Oh yes and unfortunately Garry, it is looking like Sergio Aguero is off to Real. Again it’s a pity as he would be an incredible option for the future but its one of the many tough decisions Rafa is having to make at the mo.

If we had a more complete squad now ala United a few years ago (where they could afford -both financially and for the good of the team- to only make one or two high value signings a year) he would be a must, but unfortunately it looks like he's just going to have to be a missed opportunity.

Finally Dimech Alex, I’ve heard rumours about Kromkamp being linked with various part-exchanges (Huntelaar amongst them) and yes I could certainly see one of these happening!

to be honest are best bet, for a striker would be Kuyt, this is because if Benitez plays his preferred formation next season this would see us playing one upfront with Gerrard slotting in behind with Momo Sissoko and Alonso sitting back and Kewell and Gonzalez giving the width and crosses for Kuyt.

Akzoony-I thought it was ATHLETICO madrid who had bid for aguero, perhaps signalling the fact that Torres will most definately leave in the summer.
Re Kuyt and being outbid, i believe that rafa only wants players who downright refuse to move to the highest bidder and show a real desire to join us. It has been said that we have had talks already and that Kuyt is keen to join, it all depends on Torres decision.
Rafa will probably be able to raise 20-25m from sales alone, add on the 35 he'll be given and theres still a chance we can buy both torres and kuyt.
Now its about the players who really want to come in order to finalise the mighy reds championship winning squad.

and yup Simple as that Ishmael *grin*. Why not Henry, Rooney and Ronaldinho as well while we're at it!

Playing Kuyt up front with Gerrard just behind seems like a cracking idea to me! Wouldn't work all the time, but with the new squad; we have more than enough 'possibilities' to change things as Rafa always says.

Its also an idea that i've been thinking about for England now that Rooney's crocked.
Play Lampard alongside Carrick with Gerrard behind Defoe (or Owen if he's looks fit). Plays everyone to their strengths!

Only issue i have with the plan for us is i wouldn't mind a naturally right sided winger in there as well!

This summer we will spend about 55-60 million on transfers including sales.
Cisse, morro, traore, dio and dudek will go.
In will come Rafael Marquez, Mark Gonzalez, fernando torres, fabio aurelio, gabriel paletta and daniele alves, michael owen could come back

Rafa will improve the squa further this season but first he will start by off loading the players he feels have no future left at anfield; (cisse, morientes, traore, mellor, diao, pongolle, le tellec, Dudek, whitbread).
After he has got ride of those players he will start to add to his squad and improve the first team. The following players are the targets; (Sergio Aguero, Daniel Alves, Daniel Bonera, Fabio Aurelio, Fernando Torres, Franck Ribery and Pablo Aimar). I konw there are is a lot of money there but funds are available and with those sales that will be made he shuold have enough money to mak those transfers. Personaly though i would like to see him go for the italian goal scoring power house Luca Toni with 31 seria goals this season he would be the perfect target man for the reds this coming season.

I think that rafa has done a fantastic job over the past 2 seasons. He has brought good players to the squad such as luis garcia ,xabi alonso, pepe reina and of course the legend robbie fowler. After hearing this morning that liverpool have been nominated for team of the year i think that they fully deserve it. i would like to see rafa bring some more big players to the club to further the improvement of the team so we compete with chelsea and win the league.

Rafa shuld get f.torres, kuyt, aimar, sergio agguero, ketlon moura souza (known as next ronaldinho) joaquin, luis sao and simao. i know it will cost a lot of money but it will be worth it if then they can win the champs league for a 6th time and the premiership.

Torres would be the ideal choice for livverpool and i think liverpool would be the ideal prem club for Torres, what with all the spanish connections. But if that fails, Craig Bellamy would be my second choice. If he can keep his current form of course. This deal also sounds much more realistic given Rafas preveous transfer deals

bout time rafa was given a a kitty to spend and make lfc real title contenders yes it looks better now we got bellamy and gonzales which adds great pace to our team but we need alves and a left back and hopefully another striker like kuyt or preferably torres give him another 35 mill and sign em i believe with them two addition we will stand a good chance a long life liverpool fan.

I've been reading all the transfer gossip over the last fortnight
The current squad:
Kewell is staying- showing leeds form in world cup
Garcia was going as his gf was unhappy, but she has since made up her problems, tho garcia still could be used in a transfer to reduce the price- but unlikely.
Traore, Cisse, mellor, diao, pongolle, le tellec, Dudek, whitbread all seem set to go.
I dont think pongolle will go, Rafa signed him and still thinks he has a future at the club, but not immediately.
I'd be sad to see kronkamp go, and i dont think he will. He gives us good protection down the right hand side for injuries- and he is our only cover at the moment.

Now the signings
With Bellamy this reduces the pressure to pay inflated prices for strikers, as we can survive with the strikers that we have, even if none of them are out and out strikers (with the exception of robbie- who is stall battling fitness problems)
Torres- we have a good chance, but Aletico Madrid are doing a very good job in dragging clubs into the bidding war. Torres is very unlikely to go to Real Mardrid- like Stevie G being signed to everton. He would be exactly what LFC need, but can we afford 30M pounds? as Man Utd, Arsenal, Barca are all interested.
Kuyt: Will be good, but bit more of a risk- he could be an expensive Cisse type of buy.As LFC have been scouting, and contacting his club for 18mths now we have a good reputation, which means that we are a good prospect for signing him.
Aimar: we were offered him, but rejected the offer
Simao: LFC isn't interested in this player much anymore- as far as other rumours go.

i think liverpool have done well this season but we need a goal scorer bellamy is a goal scorer but with benitez's connections surely he cold seal a move for fernando torres or maybe a big name signing after all we're losing djibrill cisse we need a right winger no doubt simao is ur answer i SAY PLAY BELLAMY ON LEFT THEN CROUCH ON OWN WITH SIMAO ON RIGHT 4-3-3 or gerrard attackin player and bring in another striker.... ps does anybody know what numba craig bellamy is ?

Liverpool should definately try and buy torres but athletico madrid have said they want 41.4 million for him. AC Milan are the latest team to become interested in him as they have the money to spend from the sale of Shevchenko. Benfica have told Liverpool they can make a new offer of about £14 million for Simao and Feyenoord want the same for Dirk Kuyt. Liverpool have offered Birmingham £3.5 million for Jermaine Pennant and the offer has been accepted. Fabio Aurellio is also set to sign on a free transfer. Rafael Benitez is interested in Tunisia's Hatem Trabelsi. Chris Kirkland is going to sign for Wigan.
