Can Liverpool finish second?

Six games to go, five points behind United and they have a game in hand! First of all how did this state of affairs come about? Wasn’t it only a month or so ago that the roles were reversed? We were two points adrift of United with two games in hand and still had to play them at Anfield!
If only we had managed to convert any of a string of chances, or somehow had kept out that last minute Ferdinand header, things could have been so different.

Still at least we get an exciting final few weeks of the season, and you know what I think? this could be our Istanbul for 2006! It may look like its all over, but we are still in the race people

….what??? You don’t believe me?? Well have a look at the remaining fixtures and tell me you don’t see hope:

United

Bolton, AWAY
Arsenal, HOME
Sunderland, HOME
Tottenham, AWAY
Middlesbrough, HOME
Chelsea, AWAY
Charlton, HOME

One glance at this fixture list must be sending shivers up the spines of many a United fan.
Chelsea, Bolton and Tottenham away!?! Arsenal at home!?!
If they’re not huge banana skins I don’t know what are.

And take a look at our run in:

Liverpool

West Brom, AWAY
Bolton, HOME
Blackburn, AWAY
West Ham, AWAY
Aston Villa, HOME
Portsmouth, AWAY

Now if we’re being paranoid we can talk about Blackburn and West Ham away being a tricky fixture or Portsmouth potentially being a good scrap, relegation battle and all, but if we’re honest there are a potential 18 points up for grabs there!

Look if you still don’t believe me, do a role play in your head and swap places and fixtures with United! See it’s not entirely comfortable is it, and am I the only one that keeps looking nervously my shoulder?!?
No pressure on United then!!

I can see Chelsea away and Portsmouth at home being our penalty shoot out this time around (as it is likely to go down to these games-I just cant see Charlton putting up a fight), and who knows it happened once before……

Anyway got to go I’m off down to Ladbrookes to put a few pennies on us!
