reffing useless

If you're going to kick authority in the teeth, you might as well use two feet. Keith Richards
As promised, following Saturday's shameful officiating, 4 other refs who've done the Blues 'like a kipper' this season.
1. Collina. Who else? A ridiculous decision to supposedly penalise the (now goal crazy) non-physical Marcus Bent for an imaginary push in the area against Villarreal. We may never recover from that decision and I think most people agree we had the silky Spanish side by the 'cojones' at that moment. He's long been presented as the best ref in the word. Rubbish. Basically the rest look like they were bullied at school and he looks quite handy in a scuffle. No better than any other, who can forget the 'penalty' he gave England against Argentina?
2. Poll. A long time enemy of Everton, dating back to way back when but especially Don Hutchinson's famous goal at Goodison with this coccyx. Allowed Peter Crouch to get away with all sorts in the derby and then gratuitously sent off Arteta just to exert his authority. Far to keen to be the star of the show, and never gives us anything.
3. Gallagher. Now I have to admit that I've never had a major issue with old Derm and he's struck me as one of the better ones. That was until he decided to extend the size of the Hawthorns penalty area by around 10 yards to give West Brom a penalty.
4. Riley. The evil one. Mike Riley of Leeds. Ironically for one of Leeds, he seems to give Man United everything. He gave Rooney that pen against Arsenal, and, most criminally of all, van Nistelrooy a penalty at Goodison on the last day 2002/3 to scupper any lingering UEFA cup hopes. A diabolical decision, even the diving Dutchman looked a bit embarrassed at that one. His most heinous crime so far this season, Milan Barros' Harlem Globetrotter trick at Villa Park.
That's it for now, but Real Life Blues has a friend in Italy at the moment and an update on Per's progress is coming next time.

Ian,
You talk far too much sense. You have sublimated all my ref hatreds from the last few years.
Collina turns my stomach every time I see him advertising cars. If I saw him in the street I'd slap his googly eyed face. Give me a red card for that you cowardly freak.
As for Poll and his 'I blew the whistle for time'. No you didn't you lying biased fool. You just didn't want a freak goal on your turf. It was a great goal by the Hutch and a huge night of celebration was prevented.

Excuse my EN, I'm from SWE!
Come on, why do you people blame the ref. I play football and I'm football referee. I'm a div. 6 player, div. 5 ref and a div. 3 ass ref. I don't find it hard and players usualy don't get angry nor do they disagree with me, but that is at my level.
The level you are talking about is really hard. You need experience, speed, condition and that means that you sorely are 40 years. In my oppinion the EN refs could do better and they are not part of the top refs in Europe but they still do a good job.
Shore a ref can do a misstake that can change a game but how many chances did your team miss?
You should start counting the faults that your team does and then compare it to the refs misstakes.
Ian Marshall's Double replies..............
Tordica - Thanks a lot for your response and cheers for reading the blog. Your English is pretty good and far better than my Swedish (I only know the words Ikea and Malmo). I've played a bit of footy myself and was always charming to refs.
I think they've got a tough job and I will definitely criticise our players when it's called for. That said, I do think Everton have had a tough time of it this season and I think 2 on the list, most especially Mike Riley, fall into the 'suspicious' category with some of their decisions.
Cheers mate
Blame should be given where blame is due. Players, Managers, Chairmen are all up for criticism. Why not refs?
One wrong decision by a ref can ruin a huge number of peoples day/week/season/life. With great power comes great responsibility. Unfortunately refs get criticised but rarely punished. When was the last time a ref got a 3 match ban for making a half assed decision? Some of the decisions the likes of are mentioned above deserve punishment.
Right! Valentines day, time to get my wallet punished.
