goal fest

It is not sufficient to see and to know the beauty of a work. We must feel and be affected by it. Voltaire
So, the promised goal-fest materialises. A random choice of 5 great goals Everton have scored in the past 20 years. They are favourites of Real Life Blues, are in no particular order and certainly do not claim to be a comprehensive list,
- Anders Limpar (Leicester away) - Leicester were bottom of the league and the old away end at Filbert Street made the Lower Bullens look palatial. After not long Anders (one time and possibly current owner of Limp Bar in Stockholm) smashed a screamer past Kevin Poole from at least 30 yards. He ran to the bottom left corner of the ground as he always did, but for once he was actually running towards his own fans. The Blues cruised into a seemingly unassailable 2-0 lead, only to go down to 9 men (Samways and Dunc off) and we scraped a 2-2 draw in the end.
- Pat Nevin (Man Utd home) - Ex-blues nemesis Norman Whiteside totally bossed this game for Everton, looking like a 35 year old maestro with younger players around him to do his running. Norm was 25 at the time, and the baby faced, Coucteau Twins fan Nevin, was faced with a one-on-one with the clueless Jim Leighton, but didnt lob him or chip him, he just ran towards him and scooped the ball over him. When big Norm went off, Everton were cruising at 3-0, we finally won 3-2.
- Adrian Heath (United home again) - Our last championship season with a team far inferior to the 85 side. Kevin Langley was one of the midfielders drafted in and did a decent job that season, along with the likes of Paul Power. 2-1 up on United with a minute to go, Langley dinks a well flighted ball into Adrian Heath, who gets the faintest of touches on a diving header to put it out of Leightons reach. The sparsely populated Street End goes mad (it was an ITV Sunday live game) and we turn United over again, like we always did at that time.
- Wayne Rooney (Leeds away) - The trip to Leeds was like Groundhog Day, playing OK, missing loads of chances and finding unlikely ways to lose or at least skilfully avoid victory. Having seen Hinchcliffe and Speed miss penalties in previous years (in Speeds case, saved by our Nige) this must be our year. Nil-nil, on comes the kid, demands the ball all the time, a few minutes later, leaves (boyhood Blue?) Bakke on his arse, opens up Radebe, slots it through his legs and in the far corner past Robinson. Cue pandemonium. Even the Leeds fans that day commented on how mental our end went. Brilliant.
- Gary Stevens (Liverpool away) - OK so this was a speculative effort which got deflected (in front of the Kop), but it really meant a lot. This was the end of an era for us, Liverpool had already won their first 10 league games when we played them in the League Cup. The game is best remembered for the treatment of John Barnes, but for most blues it was a victory we desperately needed. Awful goal, ugly atmosphere, vital win. All together now Ian Ian Rush, has gone to Juventus, and he wont play at Anfield anymore, ANYMORE.
There you have it, none of your conventional classics there. Villa preview coming soon but one question, which goals stand out for you?

Goal 4 for me has to be the top. I had vowed to go to Elland Road until we won. And there it was, a classic and I didn't even know you were there too.
Also Radz (now universally hated) at home last minute vs Southampton.
I would say more but my memory doesn't go very far back.
Anything by Amokachi too, loved him and still have his signed picture on me wall.
