Everton in transfer bargain bucket again?

Cut your cloth to suit your coat. English proverb

After the decadence of last summer, it seems that Everton are back in the bottom half of the top flight when it comes to spending dosh.

So whilst Everton were signing Scott ‘right get your barnet sorted out now’ Spencer, Chelsea are about to ‘table a bid’ (whatever that means) for Shevchenko and Teves. Good news for all those who enjoy the Kings Road nonces pre-eminence keeping certain local teams away from the title, but a great illustration of just how far behind we are. Even ‘appy ‘Arry’s got 30 mill to spend apparently.

Anyway, enough of that Toffeeweb type talk, our Scott has been scoring goals for fun (rather than seeing it like going shopping with his mum or being forced to go to church) and is hot property. Good luck to him.

Elsewhere reports that Everton have knocked back the pricey but promising Ferrari because they are ‘lining up a bid’ for Joleon Lescott of Wolves, he of the Frankenstein's monster like line in his head (or was that a dream). Either the Blues are showing supreme confidence by leaking this information, or trademark naivety by alerting other clubs that a highly rated player is on the move, and a chance to trump a skintish club is available.

Centre half-wise, things have gone very quiet on the Yobo front. Hopefully he’ll stick around but Real Life Blues remains far from convinced. Weir and Stubbs have been offered another year. The decision on Weir was probably the more difficult one but if we’re a bit skint why ‘throw the baby out with the bathwater’. Well, in this case the middle aged Jock but you get the point. Leeds are ‘ready to offer 2 years’, but in all honestly they are probably a play-off final victory away from being ready. Hopefully he’ll stick around.

The decision to offer Stubbsy more time in a blue shirt is a great one. He has been a revelation since his return and many Blues have wondered just how many of those insipid defeats earlier in the season (especially conceding poxy goals from set peices)could have been avoided with him bossing things at the back.

Keeper-wise, Howard has signed on loan for a year which looks OK to be honest. He looked excellent when he first signed for United but did suffer a dip later. He does appear to have a good physical presence, vital for keepers. This is probably the biggest single thing which let Dickie Wright down, along with his 0.000001 decibel voice, and this is probably the death knell for him. Shame, but one of those things.

Next on the potential transfer slab is Andy van der Meyde. Tough one this, you can understand that this was a Champions League signing and now that seems miles away again, maybe time to cut our losses. This would probably represent the ‘scaling back’ of the club from where we were last summer. Likewise, don’t expect to see many bids for Michael Owen this summer. AvdM was undoubtedly a gamble but at £1.8 mill probably one worth taking. So is it worth keeping the Dutchman with the ‘refuelling problem’ for another year? He showed glimpses at Birmingham and Blackburn, along with Boro at home, of what he can do, maybe give him another year. It would be a shame to add him to the list of slightly dodgy Moyesy transfers.

The perennial ‘Everton search for a striker’ search goes on, with Andy Johnson and David Nugent barely having had time to get kicked out of the play-offs, before they were linked with a move to Goodison. Time will tell but £5 million plus will stretch Moyesy’s transfer war chest, which make it sound like a chest belonging to a Geordie, which presumably means it’s got a tattoo on it. Oh yeah Faddy may be on his way too. Hmmmm.

Enough. Coming soon a further look at transfer stuff, along with the promised review of Dunc’s sendings off, and it’s probably time for a review of the last season as well, what d’ya reckon?

You can always guarantee that once the Leeds fans get involved, the level and intelligence of the debate goes up a notch.

Cheers Prolix,

So it's 2-2, the next vote has to be the winner in this impromptu poll. Then we'll move on to even weightier matters.

Alright cocker,

Defo not a cock - do I get a prize?

By the way, Big Dunc is a legend. Tim Howard is not a bad start to the summer. Fingers crossed for the rest.

Ah, cometh the hour, cometh the Cat. This poll is now closed. The prize is in the virtual post.

Cheers mate. A review of Dunc's sendings off comes soon. It would be nice to add AJ and Joleon (!) to the Howard signing soon - but can we really afford both? Hmmm, I wonder.

Am I too late to add that you're not a cock?

Yeah? Ah well.

Will you be focusing on the cricket at any stage?

Are we going to Austria this year? I fancy a weekend away?
