The stock market has forecast nine of the last five recessions. Paul A. Samuelson

As promised, a look at the remaining ten games this season, how many points we can eke out and where this may leave us. There are many elaborate methods of calculating how we are doing, not least this one on Toffeeweb, but here we’re going to apply the simple Beverley Knight method.

  • Woulda (expected to beat)
  • Fulham (h), Villa (h), Sunderland (h), Birmingham (h), West Brom (h)

  • Coulda (expected to get something)
  • Charlton (a), Spurs (h), Middlesbro (a)

  • Shoulda (at the thought of winning)
  • Liverpool (a), Chelsea (a)

Assuming 3 points per game from the first category, one per game from the second and diddly squat from the third (although we all suspect Big Dunc’s only goal this season will be the winner at Anfield) we’d glean 5 wins and 3 draws, finishing the season on 55 points. That’s just 6 less than last season and would leave us around 7th or 8th in the table. Do better and we could really be in business. This insight also allows us to identify that we should play a major part in whether Birmingham or West Brom goes down. Do you care?

Elsewhere in Blues news, a couple of non-stories being overblown. First, our Phil gets the ‘wanker’ gesture from Alan Pardew. Not the expected behaviour from a man who ends his programme notes with ‘God Bless’, but hardly a biggie and not enough to overshadow an excellent game. Also, (Davie Davie) Davie Moyes has been linked with going back to Scotland after he hinted at the fact that he may want to end up there one day. Pretty sure he’s said all this before.

Elsewhere, it seems uncanny that as the team starts to do better, more and more players come back from injury. This week it’s the turn of Pistone, James Vaughan( the rich man’s Wayne Rooney) and van der Meyde. Who knows, all could play a part in these last 10 games.

Next up, Real Life Blues will take a look at Fulham’s visit to Goodison. By the way, did anyone else think it was unfortunate that Ashley Cole’s club were visiting the Cottagers at the weekend? Shame on you.
