Why I'm glad Chelsea lost to Manchester City

Before any Chelsea fans go ballistic thinking this is another article by a non-Chelsea fan, jealous of the resources and success of the West London club, criticising Chelsea for 'buying' the league and monopolising the best players, let me reassure you it's not.
It's true that I'm not a Chelsea fan and yes, I do wish my club had your financial backing and of course I wish my team had won the Premiership last season. But that's not why I'm glad Chelsea lost on Saturday. It's much simpler than that, and more complimentary to Chelsea.
The reason that I'm glad Chelsea lost on Saturday is that is shows they CAN lose. It shows the league is open and any one of a number of teams have a chance of winning it. Because up until this week, although we are only a few games in, Chelsea looked amazing. Brilliant. Unstoppable.
They've had a raft of great players for several years. After a shaky start - as newly put together teams always do - they had gelled into a solid and impressive team, so much so that last season they rightfully won the title.
But even the performance last season pales against the start to this one. As not only a non-Chelsea fan but someone who actively dislikes Chelsea (having been spat on by the home fans above me at Stamford Bridge) it takes a lot for me to admit it, but Chelsea have been absolutely stunning in the first games of this season.
For me, they have been determined and ruthless for some time, but what they lacked was the beautiful flowing football enjoyed by fans of Arsenal and Manchester United. They won, but were not attractive. You can't say that this year. They've been entertaining to watch and devastatingly effective.
The problem was, it looked like they could create an unassailable lead within the first ten games and that would mean a boring season. Thankfully two losses in a week have shown they can be overcome. They can slip up and there is room for challengers to push them all the way to the end.
Unfortunately for non-Chelsea fans, the main challengers failed to capitalise. Arsenal in particular squandered a great chance to narrow with a woeful display at Sunderland. Manchester United only crept a point nearer thanks to the usual resilient Bolton performance.
I would bet money on Chelsea winning back-to-back titles. They've found something under Ancelotti they had been missing and it's made them a more complete team - likely to not only win them more silverware but also more admirers. But I really, really hope it stays close through to the end. That's when we'll see the best not only of Chelsea, but of the greatest league in the world.

Makes me laugh that the team that beat Chelsea aren't even given a mention as contenders!!!
If manyoo had put in that performance on Saturday against Chelsea, Ferguson would have been hailed as the greatest tactician ever. How dare City stifle a team that has scored 21 goals in 5 matches. How dare they not come out and allow Anelka, Drogba et al, rip us apart.
Forget last season, because that is exactly what it is.
We have a current squad that is more than capable of competing with manyoo and Arsenal.
Silva is coming to grips with the Premier League, Boateng has had 5 minutes, Kolarov has had slightly similar and Balotelli has had none.
So forget your bias to the "Almighty Top 3", because we will be there.
When Ryan's and Paul's arthritis sets in, who will replace them?
If our Wayne gets injured, who next? The £7m vagrant or The Little Pea?
If Vidic gets hurt, who next...Chris "The next Bobby Moore" Smalling???
Remind me again how many manyoo have conceded this year???
No-one wants to admit City are a threat, because they hate us for spending the money...that is it in a nutshell.
Instead, we get the same old diatribe. "City can't do it.", "Spent too much", "need time to build a team."
Seeing as no-one can predict the future, are you absolutely positive of that theory this year?
You're right Salford Blue. I should have talked more about Man City winning though the point of the article was less about who had beaten Chelsea and more about the fact they were beatable. That doesn't take away from City that they did a good job of it.
I know you disagree but I think this year's title will be between the big 3 - unless one of them implodes like Liverpool last season. However I expect both City and Tottenham to improve again and next year is likely to be very different.
City and Arsenal are not title contenders for sure, hate me for this bitter truth but the fact is that this two team get an even harder task of overcoming this small teams of the likes of sunderland, stoke, everton and the rest. Remember that chelsea does take jokes with any of this teams and so beating chelsea doesnt mean that you are a title contender and come November it will have become chelsea and manchester united race and if united continue with their poor form then i see chelsea winning this league much earlier than expected
City have not and will not win anything, Chelsea will.So you enjoy your victory, its all your gonna get.
Salford Blue
You beat Chelsea home and away last season, and no one then thought you were realistic title contenders.
