Bottom of the League: No Problem!
Posted by The Addickted in Charlton | 6 October 2006
Worryingly the Addicks are already becoming a "relegation tip" according to pundits and bookmakers and many are wondering, do Dowie's men have the ability to pull out of this rut?
I could go on about possible reasons for where we are, such as injuries and fixtures, but if I ever need to reassure myself, I just take a look at the league table. Yes, so we're bottom. Considor the season to be starting now, can you see the two points separating us from safety being too much to catch up in another 31 games? This time last season we were second in the league but at no point did I believe we would be chasing Chelsea for the title!
So there's my predictably optimistic speech. However, I warn you that I am not blinded by support for the team so that I can't see that our run simply isn't good enough. Our squad boasts both speed and graft in attack with Darren Bent and Hasselbank, an experienced defensive midfield are wingers with pace to burn. Why then is the team struggling to score goals, leaking them at the back and have only picked up points so far on one occasion this season?
In other news:
The expansion of The Valley to 40,000 capacity has been put on hold due to problems with planning permission and there is talk of a ground move, which seems to me is only a ploy to pressurise Greenwich Council.
Iain Dowie is set to go to the High Court with Simon Jordan under charges of "Fraudulent Misrepresentation" in December.
Darren Bent has been called up to the England squad to replace Andy Johnson, most probably as a bench warmer.

No chance. You're stuffed. Dowie's a 2nd Division manager and always will be.
Just kidding. You'll be mid-table as always.
If you think only a couple of weeks ago Arsenal could have been at the bottom, I have to say I would be surprised if Charlton don't come good.
They certainly have the players to ensure they avoid relegation!
