The Calm Before the Storm?

Posted by Ratbert in Bolton, Premiership, Tottenham | 26 June 2006

It's been quiet here, and I apologise for that... real life (ahem) gets in the way, and in any case, there's not been much news Bolton-wise to report. No new signings, no rumours of signings, no possible exits... but then again...

There is the new fixture list. For the first time in centuries, we start at home, with Spurs the visitors. They'll be hoping for a good start in their UEFA Cup (sob) season, and we'll have a natty new pitch to show off. One just like Wembley's. So expect the game to be delayed six months... the rest of the list offers mostly home ties over Christmas and New Year, with Liverpool at Anfield on New Year's Day, so like 12 months previously expect another slagging off from the despicable Alan Green. The finish is largely favourable, with Aston Villa at The Reebok to close proceedings. Will they be already relegated like their Third City neighbours this year by then?

And will we have ANY new players in the side?

At the moment, you'd have to say no. Deitmar Hamman clearly doesn't want to come here and for the second straight year is twitching on saying yes. Except he already has, having signed a pre-contract agreement in blood, and upon showing it to his wife she allegedly started throwing the crockery at him, screaming "wie trauen sie mich an diesem smelly Bolton Markt einkaufen gehen lassen!!" or words to that effect (translate it yourself). Scared of his missus, Didi's now backing out and getting veiled threats from the Bolton lawyers as a result. Let the silly sod go, I say. Looks like Meite might be going the same way; from being a done deal a few weeks ago, all has fallen silent. Maybe he's married to Hamman's wife as well, like a role-reversal of Bill Paxton's new Mormon series on five.

And then there's Sam. Whilst spouting pearls of wisdom in Germany on ITV, looks like the Aussie FA might well have been sniffing him with a view to taking him on as their new boss. Sydney or Bromley Cross? Diouf or Viduka? Hmm. Anyhoo...

...more on a more regular basis as normal football looms closer!
