Post Match Musings: Boro'ing Our Heads in the Sand

I thought I was back in 1996 for a moment. A plucky draw turned into defeat by a last minute goal. The ghost of Colin Cooper haunting us at the Riverside goal feast. This was not a result we needed, but I sensed in the Force that this might happen.

Where does it leave us then, as we commence the run from hell? Not in fine fettle. The use of Jaidi continues to mystify and Tal Ben seems lost without Bruno by his side. Borgetti is a titty liner, a 21st century Tony Caldwell, and I’m surprised Sam didn’t realise this before he signed him. It’s no good criticising the rest of the goal bandido’s play if it never existed in the first place!

Still, Jay Jay continues to improve and there’s little wrong going forward. We are creating chances… but we are also going to get caught on the break against bigger and better teams than Boro. Starting next weekend with Man U… what a knee-knocker that promises to be. Lose that and we’ll be vulnerable against a Birmingham playing for pride… and then there’s the minor issue of the diving team you didn’t see in Melbourne and the free-scoring scousers. We could end up in UEFA-free seventh spot whilst West Ham get into Europe via a cup final appearance and Blackburn finish above us thanks to their inability to do no wrong at the moment. Urgh.

Still, enough already of this pessimism. I’m going to stick my neck out and say we’ll beat United next week. There. Said it. We’ll beat United. We are due one against them, especially after being robbed last season at home, and it’s nigh on time they had a setback.

And as for our manager… well he might as well stand in Soho Square naked wearing a sash saying ‘please interview me, Brian’ the way he’s going on about the England job. More on this anon…
