Stephen Appiah: The Missing Piece of the Puzzle?

Posted by Young'un in Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, West Ham | 5 September 2008

Reports in the last week suggest that Arsenal are going to make a move for West Ham target, Stephen Appiah. The Ghanaian captain has been linked to the Gunners several times in the past, but a move to The Emirates this time around makes more sense.

Appiah is currently a free agent, obviously meaning there is no transfer fee, and he is avaliable to join any club at any time (outside the transfer window, for example). Many fans, including Arsenal supporters, were surprised and perhaps disappointed that Arsene Wenger did not bring in a much-needed midfielder on deadline day. But surely the signing fo the former Fenerbahce and Juventus man would put a smile back on the faces of Gunners fans?

Appiah is a strong, experienced 'box-to-box' midfielder; always willing to give 100%. Several people, myself included, have pointed out the lack of presence in the middle of the park. But Appiah could be that presence and his experience will certainly help the likes of Diaby, Denilson and Ramsey who are not quite ready for regular football yet. Not only is he solid defensively, but he can create chances and scores a few goals, too. Him and Fabregas could form a solid partnership, and, as previously said, the best thing is he won't cost us a penny.

For me, it's a no brainer. Please Arsene, make Appiah a gunner!

We the Arsenal fans all over Nigeria beg Wenger in the name of the Lord to bring Appiah to once again put smile on our face and bring in that tough player we need in our midfield.

I agree too, it's strange that other blogs are opposing the move... I dont care about transfer fees wages etc etc I just care about bringing players in who will strengthen where we are weaker... The Tornado will add a bit of beef to our midfield.

Your review is exactly the same as a comment that I made yesterday. He is the missing piece to our midfield jigsaw and with him in place we would then be in a position to seriously challenge for all of the competitions this season especially when we get all of our injured players back. Arsene we must have him, let him go at your peril!!!

I read that Appiah failed his medical at Arsenal but I also read that Arsenal officials have been to Ghana to seal the deal on arsenalvision.com.Which is which?

He'll be on 40,000 a week if he goes to Arsenal, that might throw the whole wage structure for a loop as that will make him the second highest paid player. :)
