Should Arsenal now be worried by Gallas

Posted by Martin in Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, Chelsea, Jose Mourinho, William Gallas | 5 September 2006

Following on from David’s post about the success of Wenger’s signings, I had intended to review the comments made on the various footie blogs by both Chelsea and Arsenal fans alike, to gauge their final take on the transfers.

But now with the revelations made in the press, about alleged comments made by Gallas refusing to play against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi final, threatening to score an own goal or make a deliberate mistake, if he was not sold, it looks like this saga is by no means over !

Now whilst Gallas denies he made the claims, I have to say I think Arsenal fans should be concerned.

A comment made on the eastlower blog is not far of my own view of the situation :

“I’ll say one thing - why is it that were still offering Gallas 70k per week if he was threatening to score own goals and get himself sent off etc? Total hypocrisy!”

Now there seems to be little dispute over Gallas’s credentials, my worry is what happens if he falls out with Wenger. Regardless as to whether you believe he made the comments of not, at the back of your mind you will always wonder what might happen on the pitch !

I think u r insulting Mr. Wenger now. As long as u have a manager like Mr. Wenger there is nothing to warry about.

This case seems to have reached such a low level of discourse, that there can be no winners. All sides (Chelsea, Arsenal, Mourinho, Wenger and, of course, Gallas himself) are losing from this.

It is pathetic, and must be stopped. And apparently it won't happen from the media or the involved parties. It must be done by us - the fans. We must take a stand and declare that we do not care about the business aspect or the ego's of individuals - we care about football and what happens on the pitch.

So, I for one will make this my final non-football related post and stop making this an issue. And the involved parties should ALL be ashamed. To see this from adults is nothing short of astonishing.

Bring back the love of the Game and not all the irrelevant nonsense that surrounds it and has made being a football supporter a chore and a pain.

With football optimism

Given the enormous motivation engendered by Chelsea's tasteless, cynical airing of matters traditionally kept within clubs and Wengers proven managerial skills. What chance that this talented footballers resentments will be harnessed into performances on the pitch. Footballer of the year perhaps

Why should we be worried about gallas? Even if he did say those things (which is open to debate) his reasons for doing so were clear. He didn't want to be at the club and was in the last season of his contract. He asked to be allowed to leave and Chelsea refused. They have no one but themselves to blame. Their arrogance is in believing no one has the right to leave Chelsea unless they sell them, and then turn round in the next breath and say Makelele is a slave to the French FA. This is a joke surely? Their inability to spot how hypocritical they are is a constant source of amusement to everyone but Chelsea fans.

Why take what Chelsea have said at face value? Isn't it in their interests to try and destabalise a rival team who are now considerably stronger and discredit an ex-player who has gone to a rival?

Let's face it, they don't have a long track record of frank and honest disclosure.

As i see the whole situation..I think it has come from the frustration of Chelski for not able to hold on to a world class player..They are now playing dirty game on Gallas and Arsenal..But it is of no use!
Arsenal are gonna make a huge impact on this season..Common Gooners!

Come on guys. Jose M is not exactly synonomous with truth is he? Did he not deny touching up Cole. Give Gallas a chance, it seems that it is pretty easy to spread discontent before Gallas has even played for Arsenal, just lie about him. Gallas has gone from a 5 year Chelski hero to a villain in a few weeks. It is Jose M's mind games. Sell a player then do what you can to devalue him. Mind you this is just conjecture, we all know Jose M would not stoop so low as to play mind games and be sneeky. Yeh!and Ashley Cole does not have his mobile on vibrate. Ha Ha.

what a strange blog - I would be more worried about Cole at Chelsea than the other way. Gallas wanted out and he is at Arsenal now. What are you on about

How unusual, slag Chelsea off...regardless of whether or not you know the facts.
Gallas has a history of petulance and whinging. He did it before Chelsea brought him, did it at Chelsea and will do it a Arsenal...no insult to Arsenal or AW..but Gallas has already started with his 80k plus wage demands.
Just wait and see what happens when he's asked tocover left back for any period of time....

What a load of cack. Its the cheals that need to be worried. The petty quotes of a bitter mafioso group wont worry us.

Cheers for the concern though.

as long as we have different views on issues there will always be disagreements. it is how we handle these different views that constitute a healthy or hostile enviroment.i strongly believe there has been such situations in arsenal camp and i believe for the good of the club they are usually handled in the right manner. so do i worry about Gallas? No.

you should only worry about gallas as an arsenal fan if you believed the chavs lies about rikjaard talking to referees, communicating to the bench with the subsequent ban or the fac they never met cole despite PHOTO EVIDENCE!!

yeah, lets all believe the upstanding, truthful russians shall we, for what they say MUST BE TRUE!

and why were they offering him a new contract if he said he'd score an own goal for them?!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Everybody associated with Chelsea should be ashamed of the quality of management team they've got. These kind of statement shows the quality of the people running the club!

Gallas hawking himself to the highest bidder? Arsenal! is this meant to be a joke?

Those guys are bad losers and are already afraid of a formidable ARSENAL!!!

Common Gallas ignore the c***s and give your best to the Gooners!!

I know everyone are getting worried but lets not forget Gallas wanted out from Chelsea for a long time and he was unhappy at playing left back. These comments I'm sure have been taken out of context and a little bit of sour milk on Chelsea's part.

Gallas is now at a club who act with the rescpect of the players and with a bit of class, not like our rivals Chelsea.

why should Arsenal be worried , the Chavs should be worried with their lack of centre-backs .
And Wenger is second to none . Look at Adebayor did he have problems at Monaco and his National team and now he is just a nice guy .

I believe that Gallas was engaged in a compare and contrast when he said Chelsea lacked class (which they do). Look at the way that AW has conducted himself - never criticising his players in public (compared to Jose M), never getting down and dirty with opposing managers (even his gag with Fergie about everyone thinking their wife is prettiest was quite drole) and has always publicity said that he has respected his players choice to move on - even in unenviable situations such as that last week with Jose Antonio - he stated that he would do what he could to help him achieve his objective...... if Arsenal could achieve their's, in a business sense.
Jose M is a bad loser - he lost Gallas, and he's still sore about it.... and their pathetic 'defence' of his ill-considered 'slavery' remarks about Makelele are yet another example that they would never, ever admit that they had said/done anything wrong - the sin is always someone elses (tell me that that isn't an indication of a lack of class).

For me its very simple.

If Chelsea are telling the truth, then Arsenal need to be worried.

If they are not, then Gallas must sue them for slander.

If he doesn't, then you'll know where the truth lies.

A number of posts have mentioned that Arsenal and Chelsea are rivals. Can I just state that to be a rival, you need to be challenging for the premiership, Arsenal are already too far behind to do that!!!

And that will be the saddest thing to ever happen to soccer....
