Man United 0 Arsenal 1 : Defining moment
Posted by Martin in Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, Man United | 17 September 2006
I have to say I was not looking forward to this game. Whilst the gunners have played well in the Champions League, the Premiership has been a different story.
My expectation going into this game, with so many key players out injured, was to come away at best with a draw. Im ashamed to say a win was far from my mind. If we lost then that probably meant the end to our league campaign, Man United being just too far ahead to catch. But a win, well that would be a whole new scenario.
Well Wenger had done his homework including his maths and now if we win our game in-hand, well be back at the top where we rightfully belong.
So onto the game
Yet again Arsenal showed there passing prowess, moving the ball around and creating chances. Toure was solid as usual, even having a pop at goal. Where did that come from? But the highlight for me was seeing Ronaldo beaten.
Lehman put in a terrific performance, o.k. he can have a funny turn every now and then, but the way he stopped Ronaldos shot, fantastic. I bet that hurt!
Then Adebayors goal. Seeing Ronaldo being robbed by Fabrigas (one trick too many!) onto Adebayor, and a goal, that made my day.
So could this be the turning point in Arsenals premiership campaign. In my books, definitely!!!

its adebayor... adebaYOR, come on hes been at the club long enough and scored the winner today so at least learn his name
A lot of Arsenal fans like you had faded beliefs about the current premiership campaign. Honestly, I was not worried about the two draws against Villa and Boro. Against City, we were off sharpness, although created lots of chances but most times unlucky not to score. Playing only 3 games and getting stick so much, I felt it was a bit unfair. I thought we needed to be patient with Man U, even before today. Also, I thought 4-5-1. Wenger was spot on with the tactics, unless of course, that I thought Walcott should have started as the lone striker. United found the 5 man midfield difficult to handle and I think any team (Chelsea included) will. Wenger needs to stick to 4-5-1 in the big games against Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U and Bolton. Arsenal use the ball very well and it wears opponents out. We just need to keep it very tight, pass it around, lump long balls when needed and work now on corners, set pieces and crosses. We need goals from headers. Then we can really challenge for this title. I dont think we're far away from winning it this season. We actually do have a squad to do this.
DISCIPLINE in play and approach is what we need!
This was a victory that had been a long time coming. If all 11 players commit 100% effort and concentration there is no reason why the gunners cannot shoot up the table. Repeat 100% concentration and effort and last but not least do not concede late goals as in previous seasons.
Thanks goonerguy for pointing out my little error with Adebayor’s name. I have now updated the post Adebayo has now become Adebayor. It was a typo, honestly !!
