Don't Believe the Truth

Posted by Young'un in Arsenal | 12 July 2011

Once again, summer is here and with it comes the tremendously tedious transfer tittle-tattle, with Cesc Fabregas once again being at the heart of the same recycled speculation first generated half a decade ago. This year Samir Nasri joins the part of the queue allegedly heading for the Emirates exit door, with many critics believing that with only one year left on his existing deal, Arsenal should cash in whilst they still can. Fairly logical one might think but Arsene Wenger rightly feels that it would be to The Gunners' detriment to sell the fleet-footed Frenchman to one of their Manchester rivals, especially when in this current market, the £20million figure we can apparently expect to receive in exchange for Nasri's services, seems to only get you players of the calibre of one-cap-wonder Jordan Henderson. Anyone who thinks Arsenal can realistically sell Nasri and bring in an equally adept replacement for the same price is clearly still living in 2005.

I intend to keep the dream alive by saying that Nasri and Fabregas will both be donning the famous red and white next season. In short, I don't see any reason why Arsenal are obliged to sell either of their midfield maestros. If things stay as they are, yes, Nasri will leave on a free in 2012 which certainly will be a huge blow, and fingers must be pointed, be that at Wenger, Gazidis or Nicklas Bendtner (people'd have you believe everything was his fault), over why we find ourselves in this current situation. The cynics among us have reason to scratch heads over the rewarding of the likes of Denilson, Vela and Eboue with new deals, yet the far more prominent figures of Nasri and Clichy have been allowed to run their contracts down at a dangerous rate. However, I still refuse to rule out Nasri putting pen to paper at London Colney, particularly if Wenger becomes more proactive in the transfer market because a player of exceptional quality coming in will surely get the optimism buzzing again. It shows our ambition, which Wayne Rooney infamously claimed United had little of...only to accept an improved contract offer. Don't be too surprised if Nasri suddenly reaffirms his love for the club if an extra £20k is pushed in the direction of his mucky fingers. So either way, money needs to be spent.

As for the skipper, I think we have a far simpler predicament. We value Cesc more than Barcelona do. He quite possibly wouldn't get into their first XI despite being the heartbeat of the Arsenal side, ergo, they're not going to cough up excessive amounts of cash because, well they don't have Kenny Dalglish at the helm. From what I've seen during his eight years at the club, I have full confidence in Fabregas' professionalism; I highly doubt he's going to publicly 'demand' a move, or pick up the importance of being idle, sporting a face like a caned backside. He will, like he always has done, treat the club with the utmost respect and will continue to give his all in every game. The impact he has cannot ever be overstated; he single-handedly transforms Arsenal from being a top-four side to genuine title challengers. Next summer, with Fabregas having one year less on his current contract, and Xavi's influence perhaps beginning to wane ever so slightly, a new scenario may arise, and Barcelona may consider Cesc more of a necessity than a luxury and will consequently improve on the derisory offers submitted thus far. But that's for another day. What I'm certain of is that the Spaniard will be leading the team out at St James Park on August 13.

Contrary to common belief, Arsenal are not a million miles away. We are certainly closer to the title than we are to dropping out of the holy grail of the top four. I certainly don't believe Liverpool are as strong as is being touted; if people think the likes of Henderson, Adam and perhaps Downing should he arrive, are going to propel them to success then they are in for some major disappointment. I'm excited by the prospect of Gervinho, and a couple more shrewd additions will make the squad stronger and able to compete for the whole season rather than until March only. Keep the faith my friends, and soon we will be drinking from the oasis of glory.

Wow. Exactly what I think of the Nasri and Cesc situation. Rightly said about finding replacement for Nasri. The wage structure I feel needs to be tweaked a little to allow for better management and holdability of first team players. The current wage structure makes selling unimportant players difficult, which is a problem Arsene is facing while making our best players hard to keep, which is again a problem Monseur Wenger is facing. Was thrilled to see a bullish manager, we need it, the attitude. Yeah we're gonna be there, yeah we're gonna make u taste the manicured lawn at the grove and yeah we're gonna stick it in the net. HELL YEAH. Cheers.

sure, I too can see Nasri in the Red & white next season. But tell me why should he put pen to paper. He's stalling and has no intention of signing, and will simply leave for nothing next season
