Charlton 1: Arsenal 2 – But how many chances do we need?

Well another win for the gunners, so I guess I shouldn’t complain.

But …

how many chances in front of goal have we wasted this season already. Well the game at the Valley proved to be no different.

Before I get onto that, what about that goal from Van Persie. Goal of the season or as the “New York Addick” put it “It was the effing goal of the decade”! Whether the decade or the season, undeniably brilliant and Van Persie is unlikely to forget it.

So back to those missed opportunities. According to the football pundits (I didn’t personally count them) we had something like 19 good chances in front of goal. We capitalised on just 2, so a little over 10%. With teams like Charlton & Sheffield we can probably get away with it. But when it comes to the Liverpools and Chelseas of the world, they are not going to be so accommodating.

So whilst we’ve been doing pretty well, winning our last 5 games and yes, we did beat United, I have to say that we still look at bit shaky, particularly in defence. We could very easily fall back into the 1:1 draw scenario we saw early in the season.

On the plus side, our next league games are against Watford and then Reading, so maybe a chance to up the scoring rate!
