Arsenal's first test of the season

Posted by Martin in Arsenal, Cesc Fabregas, Champions League, Premiership | 12 August 2008

So, we kick-off against FC Twente on Wednesday evening and we'll be without a number of our key players, including Fabregas, Toure, Nasri, Rosicky, Eduardo, Diaby and Senderos; that's quite a list!

Whilst there are no givens in football, this match against FC Twente should be ours for the taking, although having seen Rangers fall at the first hurdle and after such a good season last year, I only hope that we don't go the same way. (I'm likely to be watching this one in a pub with a Rangers fan!)

Yet again this season it looks like pundits don't favour our chances in the Premiership, Mark Lawrenson predicting that we'll end in 4th position and Ian Wright expecting us to finish even lower :

"If any Arsenal fan told me they expected the club to finish in the top four this season, I reckon they would be optimistic rather than realistic.

They would be talking with their heart and not their head."

However, since that was the oppinion of many at the start of last season, then I'm going to talk from my heart and not my head and suggest that we can win it, even though I think it will be an even tougher challenge than last year!

Come on you Gunners!

'Pundits' are pathetic, they know nothing about any team and just make a guess depending on the cost of the players that came in and the players that went out.
