Arsenal - work in progress

Posted by Martin in Arsenal, Liverpool | 4 April 2008

So it wasn't the score line that we'd all have liked, but on the positive I don't believe we are out of the Champions League, just yet.

With one game down and two to go, we now know what we're up against, and personally, I wasn't overly impressed by Liverpool’s performance.

Despite all the hype about Torres, he looked mediocre or was it just we didn't let him play. Playing for free kicks didn't please the fans and the ref didn't buy his calls for being fouled. He can expect another rough ride on Saturday!

It wasn't till I got home after the game that my son told me that we had around 60% of the possession, which didn't surprise me, it felt like a lot more.

However, if we want to stay in with a chance in the premiership and take a step closer to winning the CL, we need to make more of it and the shooting opportunities. Yet again we didn't take the chances that arose, favouring to take-on just one last player.

Walcott I felt he made a real impact on the game, once he was given the chance. He injected a bit of pace, although I could sense his thrustration at not seeing enough of the ball. I'd like to see him play a full game against Liverpool this weekend, with more of those runs down the right wing getting behind the Liverpool defense.

In the second half, we had a 10 minutes spell, where Liverpool were on their back foot and Arsenal showed some real purpose and determination, unfortunately that withered away.

Liverpool were fortunate to come away with a goal, (although our defensive error didn't help) and hence my belief that we can still win, even at Anfield.

So, one down, two to go, I like to think of it as "work in progress" we know what we have to do, we just need to up our game and get the job done!

Come on you Gunners!
