Arsenal beat Zagreb but what about the pitch

Having won the first leg with a great performance, I have to say I was expecting to see the Gunners shine at the Emirates stadium. That was not be.

Dinamo Zagreb took the lead, Arsenal’s defence found wanting, Toure not getting across to make that much needed tackle. It looked like Arsenal’s journey into the next stage could be troubled.

Van Persie put in a good performance, showing some moments of brilliance, particularly in the first half. In the second he provided the ball that ended in a goal from Ljungberg, Flamini finishing off the game in the last few minutes with a goal from Walcott’s cross.

There seemed to be some debate as to whether the gunners have the feel of the new pitch, particularly it being wider than at Highbury. I don’t quite get this. Yes it’s a new pitch, but every other week Arsenal play on a different pitch, so that seems just an excuse to me !

Anyway, in the end 2 -1 and a comfortable win and through to the next stage.

Keep it up !

You may remember that last season every other week away from home on wider pitvhes up and down the country we struggled to produce the form neede to win the league, thus our fourth place in the table. In the Champions League (once through to the knock out stage) we played a rather different (5 in midfield) game, which suited us better on the larger surfaces. A lack of depth in the squad last season meant we couldn't play this every week, but once some of the injured players return, maybe.......
