Arsenal 1 Middlesbrough 1 – So what went wrong ?

I’ve had a bit of time to reflect on this match. Before the game, I fancied the gunners chances of putting a few balls in the Middlesbrough net. O.k perhaps not the thumping that we gave them last year, but a 3 1 win should have been achievable.

Obviously that wasn’t to be ! We certainly had most of the possession and created the opportunities. According to “A Cultured Left Foot” we had 16 corners and 24 shots on goal !

So what went wrong ?

Well I guess to start with, Middlesbrough’s Woodgate did Arsenal no favours. He put in a solid performance and a position in the England squad is not out of the question. Schwarzer was on form and had one of those days where it was going to take something special (or a penalty) to put one past him.

A part from that Arsenal played their normal passing game, which may be where the problem lies. Don’t get me wrong, when Arsenal move the ball around they are the best in the world, but trying to walk the ball into the net when there are 11 men in front of you, is not always going to be easy.

I have to say, at present it’s not looking good for the Gunners and I don’t appear to be alone in my concern. Our friends over at “East Lower” are equally frustrated with Arsenal’s performance (and their hotdogs!)

With Man United next Sunday, we will need to play a different game. A win will push us back up the table, we lose and we’re at the bottom.

So unless you know something I don’t, the next few matches are going to be a bit nail biting !

But may be I just need to relax and trust in Arsene !
